The Humpty Dumpty world of the Chief Constable

“When use a word” , Humpty Dumpty said in a rather scornful tone,”it means just what I chose it to mean, neither more nor less”. [Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and through the Looking -Glass]

For a masterly summary of the position, see Ed Moloney in today’s Irish Times.

And so to George Hamilton’s finessing of Supt Geddes’ last statement. Goodness know how many lawyer hours went into it. How many drafts the SOS rejected. What Box had to say about it.

George says that PIRA is a paramilitary organisation, devoted to peaceful means, just like the Salvation Army.

Here are my questions for George:

  1. Has this organisation access to arms and explosives?
  2. Has it killed anyone in the last twenty years?
  3. Who shot Martin McGartland?
  4. If PIRA is committed to politics, who are its politicians?

I’ll bet that I won’t get a reply.

Hamilton says that they will go where the evidence leads. It’s a statement like Hercule Poirot saying ” I suspect everyone and I suspect no-one” [you do the Belgian accent].

In the twenty five years since the murder of my parents, the police have declined to follow the evidence, to the Belfast brigade of the IRA and onwards to McGuinness. What hope is there that anything has changed?

So, when George uses a word, it means precisely what his political masters, who appointed him and who control him, want it to mean.

The HIA Inquiry

One of the enduring allegations of the last forty years has been that the state’s security agencies  have been complicit in the sexual abuse , and possibly the murder of children.  Kincora is the outstanding example  but maybe  not the only instance. In GB a  major inquiry is about to start. It will not deal with Kincora. So , what next? The inquiry in Banbridge, chaired by Tony Hart, has been lumbering on for months. If you think that it is going to cut a swathe through the state , think again. Allegations have already been made against “prominent members of the community” , his words, not mine. The result? Anonymity  orders. You are not allowed to know who these people are. This , despite social media naming one such person, an elected  public representative,  frequently. What is the point of these King Canute orders? “BP” , who says that she is a victim of this public representative ,  and is badly affected by something, wanted legal aid to pursue her complaint against one of these “prominent members” The court of appeal has refused her assistance. Would the decision have been different if the accused was not a “prominent member of the community” but Fred Bloggs? The smell from this is awful. if you think that there is the remotest chance of the Hart Inquiry getting anywhere near the truth, read sections 10 and 22 of the Act,  which created the Inquiry. The state ensured, before a witness was called that it was protected. Beating up  dead priests is just an obscene sideshow. Shame on all those who are participating in this farce.

Why I admire Jim Swire

The Times today published a letter from Dr Jim Swire, “father of Flora, murdered at Lockerbie”. Can a father ever have written a more poignant phrase?

The bombing, in 1988, remains fresh in the minds of those who were then alive.

British foreign policy might be summed up as ” we have no allies or enemies, only interests”.

Dr Swire has been unswerving in his search for the truth and for justice for Flora, though the twists and turns of the case.

He is a man who fears no-one. Read today’s letter.

He is correct. Who would tell you the truth? The judiciary? The prosecution service? The State?

All is subsumed to the requirements of the State and all the state’s actors play their part.

I wish him well, I hope I can stay the course as he has done.

Loss

Losing a loved one  “naturally” is always sad.

To lose a close family member “unnaturally” say in a car crash, is unexpected, inexplicable  and difficult to come to terms with.

To lose a loved one , murdered, is horrific. The conviction of the perpetrator may bring some “closure” to use that overworked and somewhat empty word.

To lose both parents, murdered by a PIRA active service unit, in an operation approved by the man who is now deputy first minister is outrageous, unreasonable and a situation which no citizen of a functioning democracy should have to endure.

Worse, the state has been complicit in the protection of Martin McGuinness in pursuit of the chimera known as the “peace process”.

Readers might wonder what that process is, given the PSNI warning about attacks and recent newspaper articles alleging that Sinn Fein is controlled by the army council.

What price peace?

A price I will not pay.

Spot the spook

X is shot dead by Y[unknown to anyone?]  as X sits in a pub with A and B.

X’s member of parliament, C, says that it is disgraceful.

D, a journalist, reports  on the shooting of X.

E, X’s lawyer, says that he has written to C, X’s MP.

C  calls upon F  , the relevant minister, to condemn and investigate the killing.

G is appointed to investigate the killing and report to F

candidates are asked to spot the spook, or alternatively the non-spook….

Martin McGuinness, the murderer of my parents

Just to be clear. I accuse Martin McGuinness of being head of northern command PIRA and of approving the operation which led to the murder of my parents. I will set out all the information about this in due course.

I also accuse the State of being complicit in this and other murders , because it had penetrated PIRA at the highest levels. It is inconceivable that the State was unaware of his role and his criminality.

It’s not just Ms Cahill who has a case to make.

I still await a substantive reply from both the PPS and the PSNI. Busily covering up.
